New Albany Safety Town was launched in 2004 with the support of Key Bank and the New Albany Women's Network through the New Albany Community Foundation. Since then, nearly 3,500 children have graduated. The New Albany Chamber of Commerce recognized Safety Town as its Community Program of the Year, and continued support from our sponsors has been integral to the success of this now well-established program.
Safety Town is a safety awareness program held each summer for children who will be entering kindergarten or first grade in the upcoming Fall school year. Throughout the two-week, eight day session children learn 12 safety topics, taught by all State Certified Teachers, including: Bike and Helmet, Pedestrian, Bus, Stranger Danger, 9-1-1, Water, Animal, Playground, Fire Prevention & Fire Safety, Poison Control, Home Hazard, and Online Awareness. Campers also take field trips to the New Albany Police Department and The Plain Township Fire Department.
